What difference will you make?
Our first housing project, 12 Church Grove, has demonstrated that the RUSS model of community-led development is viable and achievable. We have cemented our reputation within the land trust community, our network of volunteers, funders, supporters, and stakeholders. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the project featured in multiple publications, including the BBC, Guardian and RIBA Journal. The Chair of Trustees will play a key role in expanding our impact, as we aim to develop our community-led housing model in new sites. An effective Chair will deliver impact across several important dimensions
* Working with the board to develop and achieve an aspirational vision underpinned by a deliverable strategy and business plan.
* Cultivating and modelling a culture of openness, collaboration, constructive challenge and support between board members, staff, residents and members.
* Ensuring an effective risk management framework is in place and overseeing the monitoring of performance to protect the assets and reputation of the organization.
* Growing the organization and its people through widening its volunteer base, mobilizing its members and hiring and developing staff.
* Developing and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders and partners.
* Building RUSS’s profile through public engagement, networking, events and media work.
* Acting as a champion for the organization and the community-led housing sector.

As a Community Benefit Society with charitable status, we are seeking an individual who shares our values and passion for empowering communities and building affordable, sustainable neighbourhoods, with the ambition and skills to drive our mission for the next stage of our journey. We are looking for
* Strategic leadership experience, including board-level experience.
* Significant experience in the housing, charitable or community-building Sectors. Experience in the following areas is also welcome
* Strategic management and planning
* Financial management and monitoring
* Organisational development and change management
* Risk management and corporate governance
* Community outreach What will you be doing?
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is comfortable leading a high-profile Community Land Trust, in collaboration with its members, volunteers, staff, stakeholders, supporters and Board of Trustees. After the success of our first housing project, 12 Church Grove, we're now entering into an exciting next chapter, ensuring that our first project is running effectively and searching for new sites to develop our model. The Chair will be central to the strategic leadership of our organisation as we take these next steps, building on and learning from what we have achieved so far. Over the next year, tasks for the Chair will be
* Provide strategic leadership to the Board and the organization as a whole.
* Works with the board to develop and achieve an aspirational vision underpinned by a deliverable strategy and business plan.
* Ensures the organization acts in line with its charitable objectives, rules, principles and any regulatory frameworks to which it is subject.
* Overseeing the registration process to become a Registered Provider of social rented homes, principally led by our Company Secretary.
* Attend events hosted by local authorities relating to the releasing of small sites, in order to identify opportunities for RUSS to expand its community-led housing development.
* Develop constructive relationships with key Stakeholders, networks and partners.
* Supporting the Future Projects Working Group in the writing of bids for future sites.
* Supporting the review of our rule book, policies and membership offer.
* Convening meetings with the board every 4-6 weeks to enable decisions to be made, where necessary, regarding the operations at our first housing project
* Oversee and support RUSS' various working groups, who feed back to the board
