As the GB’s regulator for the energy industry, Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business can rely on a safe and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We will become the regulator for heat networks in 2026 and, to support this work, we are developing a new digital service to interact with the heat network industry and facilitate our regulatory activity.
Working with project managers, technical leads and other internal stakeholders, you will plan and execute the testing of the heat networks digital service that will support us as we perform our regulatory duties. You will work closely with our central digital and our delivery partner in the configuration, maintenance and administration of testing tools and environments, your other responsibilities will include looking after the quality assurance within testing environments, tools and pipelines, developing test automation assets and evidence, and proposing automation best practice for continuous improvement.
With a proven track record of functional testing at a range of levels such as integration, quality assurance, user acceptance, and acceptance testing, you will have good knowledge and experience of using Specflow, Selenium or equivalent applications to write automation tests. It’s important that you understand Agile development and QA methodologies and have proven experience of using SQL to interrogate data. Experience of working with Salesforce will be an advantage. We will also look for the ability to collaborate with business analysts, project managers, senior managers and business customers, and you’ll benefit if you possess time and change management skills across multiple functional groups.

Key Responsibilities
* Working with project managers, technical leads and subject matter experts to plan and execute manual tests.
* Plan and write automated tests.
* Define and Execute acceptance tests with business analysts/business areas using BDD (Behaviour Driven Development).
* Work within Agile Scrum teams and prioritise your own work.
* Serving as the subject matter expert in the configuration, maintenance, and/or administration of testing tools or environments.
* Developing automation tests to a good coverage and standard.
* Responsible for quality assurance within Testing environments, tools and pipelines.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
* Testing and assuring digital delivery meets Ofgem’s requirements and regulatory duties.
* Develop Test approach for products and projects.
* Develop and Execute tests with business analyst’s/business areas using BDD (Behaviour Driven Development).
* Maintain and develop test automation assets and evidence.
* Propose automation best practices for continuous improvement.
* Writing test cases and automated tests, evidencing specifications.
Person specification
* (Lead criteria) A proven track record of functional testing at various levels such as:
- Quality assurance testing
- Usability testing
- System testing
- Accessibility testing
- Supporting user acceptance testing
* (Lead criteria) Demonstrable experience of interpreting requirements to enable thorough and accurate testing against desired outcomes.
* Identification and management of defects with both internal and external stakeholders using tools such as Azure Dev Ops or Jira.
* Demonstrable expertise of collaborative working within agile delivery teams.
* Strong test planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments.
* Strong skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing testing tasks.
* Continuous improvement experience.
