About The Role
We are seeking a Senior or Principal Flood Risk Consultant to join one of our Birmingham, Croydon, Exeter, Manchester or Wakefield offices. The ideal candidate will have a strong drainage design background and expertise in hydraulic modelling and drainage network 3D modelling. The role involves working extensively with teams across all UK offices, liaising with clients and leading the delivery of technical input.
The successful applicant will manage medium‑sized projects or several smaller projects with complex features, ensuring that scope, cost and timelines are respected. You will support the wider multidisciplinary project team, drive quality against engineering practice, health & safety legislation and relevant codes, and contribute to business development and client relationship building.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Lead technical input on assigned projects, ensuring high safety, quality and environmental standards.
* Maintain the technical quality of own and team work, adhering to good engineering practice and current design methods.
* Prepare feasibility studies, designs, design calculations, tender documentation, scheme evaluations, design statements and other reports as identified in the Project Quality Plan.
* Check work, including third‑party design proposals, against the Project Quality Plan.
* Supervise technical work of staff.
* Provide general technical support to own discipline team members, drawing on a good understanding of relevant standards, codes and legislation.
* Assist with the preparation and maintenance of standard specifications.
* Engage in client and third‑party liaison, fostering reputation and repeat work.
* Promote the capabilities of the company to current and prospective clients.
* Adhere to internal management system procedures.
* Support the production of bids, including creating methodologies and pricing schedules.
Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills
* Qualifications – Civil Engineering, Geography degree or similar; Chartered or Incorporated via professional body (ICE or CIWEM).
* Experience – Considerable experience on water‑based projects; significant experience with Integrated Urban Drainage Models (e.g. InfoWorks ICM); understanding of water company responsibilities; experience with 1D/2D hydraulic modelling (Flood Modeller/TUFLOW); knowledge of flood risk projects for land development, regeneration and transportation; awareness of health and safety legislation; experience conducting site visits and surveys.
* Skills – Drainage network 3D modelling; design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
