A client within the Public Sector based in Merseyside is currently recruiting for a Technical Officer – Housing Improvements to join their Building Maintenance & Improvements Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a housing improvement environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to support the Principal Housing Improvement Officer in the delivery of a comprehensive and efficient Home Improvement Service. The post holder will assess adaptation requirements in line with relevant legislation, undertake design work to address identified needs, and manage the delivery of works to a high standard.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Provide an efficient and effective service to clients applying for or receiving housing grant/loan assistance.
• Oversee all technical aspects of the housing grants/loans process from initial enquiry to completion.
• Conduct inspections and surveys to identify eligible works, prepare detailed plans, specifications and schedules of work.
• Manage contractors and monitor quality of work, ensuring compliance with relevant housing and safety legislation.
• Liaise with Occupational Therapists, clients, and partner agencies to design suitable and cost-effective adaptations.
• Maintain accurate records, monitor job progress, and contribute to service improvement targets.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• HND/HNC in Building Construction or Surveying (or equivalent).
• Experience in residential building or surveying, with strong knowledge of adaptations, maintenance, and private sector housing grants.
• A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Experience in using CAD software for plans/specifications.
• Familiarity with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and Decent Homes Standard.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £24 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £19 per hour PAYE).
