To work as part of the pharmacy team in providing an efficient, effective and safe pharmaceutical service to patients and customers, including dispensing and stocking wards and departments as appropriate.

Main Duties of the Job
Rotational Pharmacy Assistant role involves rotating through the Aseptic Suite, Dispensary, Ward services and Stores, gaining experience and undertaking additional training if required.
Applicants should have good communication and organisational skills, be self‑motivated, possess excellent interpersonal skills, be flexible, able to work well under pressure, and be physically fit.
Learn and take responsibility within a diverse team consisting of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacists, Nurses and Clerical staff. Work closely with the pharmacy team to provide high quality pharmaceutical care to all patients within the Trust.
Job Responsibilities
* Dispense patient, outpatient, discharge prescriptions and aseptically prepared items in line with departmental SOPs, ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness. Work under the supervision of pharmacy technicians or pharmacists, seeking advice on complex prescriptions.
* Dispense controlled drugs (CDs) in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act (1970), RPSGB standards and departmental SOPs. Document receipt of CDs into the CD registers (paper and electronic) as soon as possible. Maintain accurate registers and report discrepancies to the Dispensary Coordinator.
* Receive work requests from patients and wards in the department (dispensary, stores and Aseptic Unit), collect prescription charges, and provide information on drug dispatch and waiting times. Answer basic queries or refer to technicians or pharmacists for clinical or technical questions.
* Keep all work areas clean and tidy, adhere to cleaning SOPs in the Aseptic Lab, ensure stock is rotated and in date, and return excess stock to pharmacy stock as per the returns SOP.
* Assist in basic clerical duties including filing and photocopying.
* Work flexibly across all pharmacy departments, covering for colleagues during peak periods or absence.
* Participate in training and development activities, personal development, education of colleagues, appraisals, personal reviews, and achievement of agreed objectives.
* Work weekend, late night and bank holiday as required.
* Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Pharmacy in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
