Job Summary
We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our network - Central Health Partnerships.
The role will be based at Great Barr Medical Centre, 379 Queslett Road, Birmingham, B43 7HB. The position is Permanent, Full‑time with a pay rate of £17.26 per hour.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
* Undertake patient‑facing and patient‑supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision‑making conversations with patients.
* Carry out medicines optimisation tasks, including effective medicine administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation, and utilising consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
* Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care‑home patients and synchronise medicines for patient transfers between care settings, linking with local community pharmacies.
* Support the Clinical Pharmacist in Structured Medication Reviews (SMR) by organising necessary monitoring tests prior to SMR.
* Provide expertise to address public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information and support in tackling local health inequalities.
* Manage shared care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacists for more complex patients.
* Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing locally.
Technical and Administrative Responsibilities
* Support the PCN multi‑disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are followed.
* Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reduce medication wastage.
* Provide training and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines, including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
* Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering.
* Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and multidisciplinary team members to support integration across health and social care, including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health.
* Support practice reception teams in streaming general prescription requests to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review more complex requests.
* Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
* Help deliver the PCN’s QIPP agenda, QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services.
* Assist the PCN in reviewing and developing practice policies for CQC requirements.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Professional Registration with the GPhC.
* CPPE Pathway completion.
* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
* Experience as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
* Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade partners and stakeholders of the merits of options, innovations and new opportunities.
* Computer‑literate with ability to use required GP clinical systems (desirable) and Microsoft Office packages (essential).
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Primary Care Networks, General Practice and evidence‑based medicine.
* Appreciation of the NHS agenda and Government targets.
* Awareness of systems to support patient management in primary care, providing pharmaceutical input within pathways of care.
* Knowledge of GP budget‑management and funding systems to support delivery of PCN and NHS priorities.
* Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology.
* Understanding of primary care prescribing, rational prescribing concepts and strategies for prescribing improvement.
* Knowledge of pharmacy law, ethics and current legislation.
