Job Overview
We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Music to join our thriving and well-resourced department in January 2026. The successful candidate will teach at KS3, KS4 and KS5, and will be expected to contribute to the exciting co-curricular musical provision. Although not essential, the ability to teach Music Technology at A-Level will be advantageous for this position.
Forest has a long-standing reputation for its outstanding Music Department. Music is at the core of the educational provision. There is an incredible array of musical ensembles and choirs, and Forest is a school where music is not simply an additional activity but a subject where those pupils who wish to pursue it to the highest level regularly achieve that goal. Many pupils attend conservatoire Junior Departments and are members of national organisations such as the National Children’s Choir and the National Youth Orchestra. Pupils regularly go on to study Music at university and conservatoire, often winning scholarships. This is a dynamic and busy department, with an excellent team of five classroom teachers, a full-time Music School Manager and 40 Visiting Music Teachers. Our ethos is that all our pupils should be considered as musicians and should be inspired to love music. Classical music is pursued to a high standard with an active Chapel Choir, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, but the Department is equally as proud of its Soul Bands, Big Bands and termly rock concerts. There is a full programme of concerts and recitals. In addition, being situated a short distance from central London, the department makes good use of opportunities to take pupils to concerts and recitals as well as providing the opportunity to give regular performances at venues such as St. James’ Piccadilly, Sinfonia Smith Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral and Chelmsford Cathedral. There are music tours and a biannual Musical production.
