To work as a full member of the primary health care general practitioner team providing a full range of personal medical services to patients and contribute to the development of the practice.
Responsibilities
The Core activities of the General Medical Practitioner:
* Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
* Provide other personal medical services to meet identified patients need.
* Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether self-referred, or referred from other healthcare works within the organisation.
* Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice; disease management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
* Work within current ICB policy for prescribing.
Main duties of the job
* Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
* Compile and issue computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand written prescriptions whenever possible).
* Take part in areas including health research, clinical auditing and data collection.
* Contribute to QOF requirements and recording data appropriately.
* Screening the patients for health education.
* Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
* Undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care, as set by the Royal College of General Practitioners, General Medical Council and other regulatory bodies applicable to the staff within the Practice, Department of Health, ICB, CQC, and related organisations.

We have 35,000 patients across our two dispensing practices – Market Harborough Medical Centre and Husbands Bosworth Medical Centre. We also have a branch site at St Luke's Treatment Centre with an MIU and a care home team. We are a single partnership PCN with aspirations for a single neighbourhood contract.

Service Development
* Be involved in developing primary care services to meet the needs of the practice population.
* Work with the practice team to ensure access targets are reached.
* Work with the practice team to ensure immunisation and health inequalities targets as defined within the GMS contract are reached.
* Support health development and ensure health promotion work is undertaken to allow the practice population to make informed choices.
* Ensure the practice is represented at appropriate meetings, e.g., Practice Based Commissioning Groups.
Managerial
* Awareness of, and compliance with, all relevant organisation policies and procedures, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and infection control. Apply these to all aspects of one’s own work.
* Committed to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based practice.
* Contribute to evaluated audit and clinical standards setting within the organisation.
* Contribute to the development of computer-based records.
* Contribute to summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.

* Prescribe safe and effective medicines management which conforms to NICE Guidance, DH directives and Good Prescribing Practice as defined by the BNF.
* Operate safe management and regular review for all patients receiving repeat prescriptions.
* Comply with Prescribing Incentive Scheme targets.
* Contribute to referrals to other medical service providers with adequate information for proper assessment.
* Support any complaints policy and procedure to ensure proper investigation and follow-up actions as needed.
Confidentiality
* All patients have the right to expect that all practice staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately at all times.
* Postholders may access confidential information relating to patients, carers and staff, which must be kept confidential in accordance with policies.
* Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues or the business of the practice may be divulged only to authorised persons in line with policies and data protection requirements.
Communication
The post-holder must recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and strive to communicate effectively with team members, patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly.

* Engage in NHS Appraisal and GMC Revalidation processes; ensure mandatory training is up-to-date (e.g., Basic Life Support, safeguarding).
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration MBChB or equivalent.
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Understanding of teamwork in providing quality care.
* Decisive, confident working style with ability to manage competing priorities.
* DBS Check satisfactory.
* MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP.
* Experience with EMIS Web and GP clinical systems.
* Interest in additional clinical skills.
* Ability to advocate for clinical standards.
