The salary for this role is £54,376(inclusive of aSpecialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. AsSenior Development Engineer, you will work in the STEP Magnets team developing the toroidal field (‘TF’) quench heaters, working with industry on the material development. Prototypes will be subject to ‘proof of concept’ on small scale test coils before being demonstrated on scaled up ‘big small coils’ and ultimately TF ‘model coils’. The role will be responsible for delivering this quench heater evolution over the next 12 months. Key skills include:
Key Accountabilities
* Cryogenic materials testing
* Developing strategic technology development plans
* Detailing prototyping test plans
* Specifying and managing contracts to deliver said test plans for cryogenic materials
* Interfacing with HTS (High Temperature Superconducting Magnets) multi-physics team to define/refine requirements
* Interfacing with manufacturing to scale-up into production components
Qualifications
Essential:
* Experience in a structured research environment.
* Extensive experience working in a technology-driven field.
* Appetite to learn, research, investigate and tackle new challenges.
* Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical terms.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
Desirable:
* Previous experience working in the fusion industry.
* HTS magnet technical knowledge
