Wakefield Emergency Department Link Worker
NJC Scale Points 12 – 17, from £26, to £28, pa / pro-rata
Plus, unsociable hours payment (on top of basic salary) of £2.00 per hour from 9.00pm – 2.00am
1x 30 hours per week (including evenings & weekends up to 10:00pm) – Touchstone
1x 24 hours per week (including evenings & weekends up to 10:00pm) – Gasped
This role is fixed term for up to 12 months.

You will carry out a non-clinical role taking a person centred approach working with the Acute Psychiatric Liaison Service (ALPS) in A&E at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, to support individuals who present with mental health difficulties, distress, and/or thoughts of suicide. You will connect them to the range of complementary and alternative crisis services within the community, including crisis cafés, safe spaces and peer support services. The role will be a focused on out-of-hours support, and you will also signpost on needs such as emergency housing, food, community health services.
The Mental Health link worker will provide positive asset-based support to people presenting at A&E who have been triaged by the ALPS team and referred as eligible for support. The link worker will manage and understand distress from people and will be able to offer culturally appropriate support where required that includes de-escalation skills to reduce levels of anxiety. You will coproduce safety/recovery plans with the individual and jointly assess and agree the most appropriate ongoing support in the community, making referrals and connecting people directly into this support, following up with services and the individual.
