Job Description
Bradley David Associates is recruiting for an experienced Import Operator (FCL) on behalf of a growing logistics and freight forwarding organisation based in Basildon.
This role requires strong operational knowledge of full container load (FCL) shipments, customs procedures, and end-to-end import processes, ensuring cargo is handled efficiently, compliantly, and in line with client expectations.
Responsibilities:
• Manage FCL import shipments from origin through to final delivery
• Liaise with shipping lines, overseas offices, and UK suppliers to coordinate shipments
• Monitor vessel arrivals and track shipment progress, ensuring timely delivery
• Coordinate UK import customs clearance via CDS
• Arrange haulage and final delivery to customers
• Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed within required timeframes
• Proactively manage delays, exceptions, and operational issues
• Maintain regular communication with clients, providing shipment updates
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and partners
Requirements
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in ocean imports within a freight forwarding environment
• Strong knowledge of FCL import operations and end-to-end shipment management
• Working knowledge of UK import customs procedures via CDS
• Experience dealing with shipping lines and overseas agents
• Familiarity with international Incoterms and import documentation
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment
• High attention to detail and a proactive, ownership-driven approach
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs brokerage operations. Strong working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, import processes, and trade compliance. Previous experience supervising or mentoring entry writers is highly preferred. Active U.S. Customs Broker License strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
