Job overview
As a Clinical Photographer you will provide high‑quality clinical photographs for patient records, teaching and publication. You will work with a progressive, collaborative team to deliver standardised clinical images and also supply corporate and public‑relations photographs for the Trust’s Communications Team, appearing on social media, BBC and local press.
Main duties of the job
Day‑to‑day duties include shooting patients in a dedicated studio, on wards, in theatres and outpatient clinics, photographing a range of clinical subjects such as dermatological conditions, chronic wounds, safeguarding enquiries, dental/facial reconstructions and pre‑ and post‑operative surgery. You will also provide high‑quality public‑relations images for recruitment campaigns, stock imagery and news stories.
Qualifications & Experience
* A degree in Medical Illustration/Clinical Photography or Photography with additional Clinical Photography knowledge.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Experience of clinical, general and scientific photography, health and safety regulations, and in‑depth computer literacy of digital photography and image‑management software.
* Experience working with patients in an NHS setting or related field is desirable.
Trainee requirements
* A degree in a photography‑related field (required for the Post‑Graduate Certificate).
* Demonstrated compassion and care within a work environment.
* Entry‑level knowledge of the role and required skills through self‑lead research.
* Computer literacy and knowledge of digital photography and image‑management software.
* Any experience in a clinical photography department or NHS setting.
Person specification
* Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of clinical and general photographic techniques.
* Sound knowledge of clinical conditions, anatomy and physiology.
* Proven ability to produce standardised and demonstrative clinical photographs.
* Convey compassion and care when interacting with patients.
* Proficiency in producing public‑relations photographs.
Recruitment & Employment
All roles are Subject to a 6‑month probationary period. Relevant candidates currently employed by OUH are exempt. The post is open to candidates who hold appropriate UK professional registration and who can undergo DBS checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
