Job Title: MEP Quality Engineer
Location: Plymouth, Devon
Reporting To: Quality Manager
Working Hours: 42.5 hours per week (08:00 - 17:00)
Purpose of the Role
An experienced MEP Quality Engineer is required to support the delivery of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems within a large, secure infrastructure environment. The role focuses on maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance and compliance throughout all project stages, ensuring that all works are completed in line with contractual, regulatory, and company quality management requirements.
Due to the nature of the facility, BPSS security clearance is required (this process may take up to 8 weeks).
Eligibility: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary liaison between the delivery team and the client on matters relating to Hold and Witness inspections and surveillance activities.
* Carry out inspections and surveillance of MEP installations at key project stages to ensure compliance with design specifications, standards, and quality plans.
* Support on-site investigations of specific quality issues, assist in root cause analysis, and contribute to corrective and preventive actions.
* Attend and actively participate in quality meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of site quality performance.
* Deliver quality training sessions and awareness modules to internal teams and supply chain partners.
* Ensure data demonstrating achievement of quality objectives and KPIs is collected, reviewed, and maintained accurately.
* Monitor the implementation of the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure supply chain partners operate systems that align with project and industry requirements.
* Promote a strong quality culture across all delivery teams through effective communication, collaboration, and engagement.
* Review and support the implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), supply chain quality plans, and control procedures.
* Ensure that Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Corrective Action Requests (CARs), and quality observations are addressed and closed out promptly and effectively.
* Assist in identifying and developing project-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve quality performance.
Required Experience and Skills
* Proven experience in a Quality Engineer or similar role within the MEP, construction, or engineering sectors.
* Strong understanding of MEP systems, installation standards, and quality management processes.
* Knowledge of industry best practices and UK construction quality standards.
* Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage both internal teams and external partners.
* Competent in quality auditing, report writing, and compliance documentation.
* Ability to interpret design drawings, specifications, and quality assurance documentation.
Qualifications and Certifications
* HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering (or a related discipline).
* ECS or CSCS Card - PQP/AQP level.
* Additional training or certification in Quality Management (e.g. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor) desirable.
* Experience working within highly regulated or secure environments advantageous.
