Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist – Preceptee opportunity (Band 8a)
Job Summary
Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is developing its Child Psychotherapy provision across Devon. We are looking for experienced Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists to join our Mood, Emotions and Relationships pathway. This portfolio offers a mix of full‑time, part‑time and flexible working, with 1.0 WTE and 0.8 WTE contract options and a preceptorship pathway for new or soon to be qualified colleagues.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist you will provide high‑quality, complex assessments and evidence‑based psychotherapy to children, young people and families. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Delivering complex assessments, formulation and therapy for severe, chronic and enduring mental health concerns (e.g., depression, anxiety‑based disorders, trauma).
* Providing clinical supervision to trainee psychotherapists and supporting the development of colleagues.
* Participating in multi‑disciplinary team meetings, complex case consultations and inter‑agency work.
* Leading service development, audit and research initiatives that enhance quality improvement within the pathway and the broader service.
* Managing safeguarding risks and ensuring clinical governance with external agencies.
Experience
* Experience of working collaboratively with service users and families, including use of goal‑based care and routine outcome measures.
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary teamwork and inter‑agency collaboration.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of child mental health problems across all ages and severities.
* Experience of specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for children with highly complex needs, including risk assessments.
* Experience of providing effective clinical supervision, teaching, training and assessment.
* Experience safeguarding children and ensuring the safety of young people in partnership with agencies.
* Demonstrated commitment to anti‑discriminatory practice and valuing diversity.
* Experience in contributing to multi‑professional and inter‑agency meetings and professional teaching.
* Experience exercising full clinical responsibility within a multidisciplinary care plan.
Qualifications
* Doctorate‑level ACP‑accredited training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy.
* Full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP).
* Post‑qualification specialist therapy/assessment training relevant to children and young people.
* Post‑qualification training or proven equivalent experience in supervision.
Contract & Salary
Permanent contract – Band 8a. Salary: £49,387 to £64,750 a year (pro‑rata) with options for 1.0 WTE or 0.8 WTE. Full‑time, part‑time and flexible working arrangements are available.

Applicants must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DSBS) check and hold current UK professional registration. Skill‑worker sponsorship is considered for suitable candidates.
