NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist to support its current team during a major service expansion and to cover maternity leave.
The post holder will work within the existing Anaesthesia Team, which includes 40 Consultants, one Associate Specialist, one Specialty Doctor, three Anaesthesia Associates, and approximately 17 trainees. The team shares responsibility for providing comprehensive anaesthetic services for NHS Forth Valley. These are partly new posts to support the development of the Forth Valley Elective Care Centre, with the goal that the department will eventually comprise 43 Consultants.
Anaesthetic Services are based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. Pain management clinics operate at Falkirk Community Hospital, with virtual consultations during the pandemic to ensure continuity of care.
We value your skills and experience and will accommodate subspecialty interests, including chronic pain management and intensive care. The posts involve on-site out-of-hours and overnight work as part of normal duties. Appointees must be capable of supporting trainees and team members in obstetric, critical care, and emergency anaesthetic services, supported by a non-resident general and intensive care consultant. The post includes a 1/3 share (1 in 39) of non-resident on-call duties. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this aspect with current colleagues.
The department supports a wide range of surgical specialties, including obstetric and paediatric services, as well as acute and chronic pain services. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care and foster a close-knit team environment that values enthusiasm and excellence. Our initiatives include Day of Surgery Admission, Day Case Surgery, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).
Located in the heart of Scotland, our hospital is near Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, with excellent transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and access to vibrant towns with rich cultural and sporting facilities.
