Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and forward‑thinking GP to join our innovative, training‑focused practice serving 20,000 patients in Wallington.

We are looking for a GP, experienced or newly qualified who will embrace new models of care and digital health technologies. Be proactive in identifying opportunities for service improvement and clinical innovation. Be open to developing special interests that align with practice and community needs. The position is available for an immediate start. The successful candidate will form strong relationships with their patients whilst also providing safe evidence‑based clinical care. We are very proud to have a wonderful strong and long‑serving team who enjoys working and learning together. We have morning huddles to discuss patients, share learning and to support each other as well as regular clinical and whole‑practice team meetings. You will be working within a supportive and friendly team in our modern, purpose‑built premises.


About Us

Wallington Family Practice currently provides general medical services to a population of approximately 20,000 patients. It has 11 GPs, a team of pharmacists including pharmacy technicians, a lead nurse, five practice nurses, one HCA, and an extensive team of admin and reception staff. We are a large proactive teaching practice located in a purpose‑built health centre close to Wallington town centre and are part of the Wallington Primary Care Network (PCN) working collaboratively with local general practice colleagues for the good of the local population. We recently achieved a rating of “Good” with CQC.

Job Responsibilities

* Patient consultations (pre‑booked and emergencies), including face‑to‑face and telephone consultations.
* Dealing with queries.
* Visiting patients at home.
* Checking and signing repeat prescriptions electronically, issuing new items where needed.
* Checking and filing patient test results and undertaking further actions as required.
* Updating patient medical records and ensuring items are addressed in respect of QOF or other items.
* Undertaking examinations and medicals as required (NHS and private).
* Dictating, checking and signing referral letters and forms (NHS and private).
* Completing all relevant paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
* Having own patient list in respect of usual GP status (permanent contracts only) and undertaking work specifically relating to that patient group as well as covering for other GP colleagues and assisting with relevant paperwork as required in line with practice protocols.
* Clinical lead role responsibilities (area to be agreed) with responsibility of annual audit and protocols where needed.
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in regard to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care professionals.
* Recording clear and contemporaneous clinical system‑based consultation notes to agreed standard.
* Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.
* Risk profiling and care planning in line with national and local guidance and practice process.
* Participating in MDT meetings as required.


Additional Responsibilities

* Contributing to evaluation and auditing and clinical standard setting with the organisation.
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant practice policies, protocols and guidelines.
* Attendance at training, practice meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate and relevant to the role.
* Contributing to the quality standards agenda within the organisation.
* A commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
* Maintaining a personal professional development portfolio.
* Assisting with the training of members of the Primary Healthcare Team and medical or other students where appropriate.
* To assist with the regular review of practice protocols.
* To undertake GP lead roles as identified and appropriate.
* To undertake clinical audits as identified.

* Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
* Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
* Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
* Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas tidy and safe and keeping them free from hazards.
* Actively reporting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.
* Undertaking infection control training (minimum annually).
* Reporting potential risks identified.

DBS

The post-holder will be required to complete a satisfactory check from the Disclosure and Barring Service concerning any former criminal convictions. Employment within the practice is not subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and you are required to declare all criminal convictions, even those which are classed as spent.


Person Specification


Essential Qualifications & Certification

* MRCGP qualification or similar.
* Current registration with the GMC.
* Representation with a recognised medical defence organisation.
* Current CPR certification.
* Registered on a medical performers list.
* UK work permit if required.


Essential Experience

* Appropriate experience and skills as per JD.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Ability to work with limited supervision.
* Time management skills – ideally a proven ability to handle a primary care case load.
* IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses EMIS web).
* Experience in using Microsoft Office programmes.


Desirable Experience

* Experience and a special interest in a specific disease area.


Essential Ability and Aptitude

* Ability to work and collaborate in a primary care team.
* Willingness to learn new skills.
* Ability to draft error‑free letters and reports in a timely manner.
* Ability to work flexibly when required.
* Motivated and enthusiastic.
* Reliable and punctual.
* Commitment to primary prevention, and health improvement, and understanding the need for patient empowerment.
* Evidence of working / training in General Practice.
* Experience of working as part of a wider MDT.
* Experience of working to standards / guidelines applicable to Primary Care e.g. NICE, prescribing, QOF.
* Understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for confidentiality with regards to patient and business matters.
* A patient advocate and able to assist patients in addressing health inequalities.
* A good understanding of PMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process (QOF).


Other (desirable)

* Valid UK driving licence.
