Description About the Role We are seeking experienced, talented and motivated structures engineers with a proven ability to support the delivery of infrastructure projects. This is an interesting role in which the key responsibility is to contribute to delivering multidisciplinary civil engineering projects. Key Responsibilities In this role, you’ll lead the design and delivery of a wide range of highway or environment structures engineering projects across Cornwall. You’ll manage your own workload, mentor a small team of engineers and technicians, and work closely with colleagues across CORMAC, our strategic partners, and clients including Cornwall Council and external stakeholders. This is a varied and rewarding position where you’ll be at the heart of delivering innovative, sustainable, and safe infrastructure solutions that make a real difference to communities. What You’ll Be Doing Lead and manage the design of highway and infrastructure structures design projects through all stages – from feasibility and concept to detailed design and delivery. Supervise, mentor, and support graduates, technicians, and design team members. Coordinate project teams to ensure delivery to scope, budget, and timeline. Prepare and check technical reports, Approval in Principle documentation, CAD/BIM drawings, reinforced concrete drawings and supporting documentation. Undertake and review site investigations, data collection, and technical assessments. Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reports. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders – including clients, contractors, local authorities, and the public. Support implementation of new design processes and promote best practice in technical and environmental standards. Identify and develop innovative, low-carbon design solutions, helping CORMAC lead the way in sustainable engineering. You’ll be comfortable managing multiple priorities and building effective relationships with clients and colleagues alike and working with operational teams to deliver Design and Build projects. You’ll ideally have: A degree or HNC/HND in Civil or Highway Engineering (or equivalent experience). Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards it). Proven experience in managing and designing highway structures, project management and highway construction practices. Strong technical knowledge of Eurocode and British Standards, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, CDM Regulations, and relevant legislation. Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills. A passion for delivering high-quality, sustainable infrastructure and driving innovation.
