Our client, a trusted partner of the UKs Ministry of Defence, is seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer FPGA Tools. Youll play a key role in maintaining the performance of FPGA development environments, acting as a bridge between end-users (FPGA designers, hardware engineers, software developers), internal IT teams, and external vendors. Responsibilities include technical support, software licence management, and contributing to the strategic roadmap for FPGA infrastructure to support efficient engineering delivery.
Key Responsibilities
As an Application Support Engineer FPGA Tools, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and optimising the organisations FPGA development environments. Youll manage tool maintenance, software licensing, and act as the key liaison between engineering teams, internal IT, and external vendors. Your focus will be on ensuring seamless functionality, resolving technical issues, and contributing to strategic infrastructure planning.
This role demands a proactive and solutions-focused approach, with a strong emphasis on user support, documentation, and continuous improvement. Youll be instrumental in enabling engineering teams to work efficiently and confidently with FPGA tools and systems.
* Manage software versioning schedules and coordinate upgrades through certification and testing processes.
* Create detailed discovery and installation documentation for FPGA toolsets.
* Perform regular maintenance including updates, patches, and debugging to optimise performance.
* Monitor licence usage trends and develop action plans based on current and future needs.
* Recommend procurement strategies and vendor adjustments to meet evolving project demands.
* Execute licence requests in line with procurement policies and vendor communications.
* Act as the primary contact for IT hardware/software issues related to FPGA tools.
* Diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting FPGA tools, hardware, and designs.
* Support roadmap development for FPGA infrastructure, hardware, and applications.
* Provide expert user support and maintain comprehensive training and guidance materials.
What do you need?:
* Strong FPGA Design Knowledge: Solid understanding of FPGA architecture, digital logic design, and proficiency in hardware description languages such as VHDL and Verilog.
* Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with industry-standard FPGA development tools including Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus Prime, and Lattice Radiant, covering synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and simulation.
* Advanced Debugging Capability: Skilled in using diagnostic tools like ChipScope and SignalTap to troubleshoot and analyse hardware-software interactions.
* Broad Technical Acumen: Familiarity with operating systems, databases, programming languages, and core networking principles.
* Analytical Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to assess and resolve complex technical challenges within FPGA environments.
* Clear Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with technical teams, stakeholders, and vendors.
* User-Centric Support: Proven ability to deliver responsive, empathetic, and effective support to users, even in high-pressure scenarios.
* Documentation Excellence: Experience in producing clear, structured, and user-friendly technical documentation and training materials.
