Job Purpose
To supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students continue their learning by following pre-prepared lesson plans. The Cover Supervisor will maintain a positive learning environment, support behaviour expectations, and contribute to the smooth running of the school day.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise whole classes during the absence of teachers, delivering cover work as set by teaching staff.

Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
*
Respond to student questions and support them in completing set work without introducing new learning.
*
Register attendance and report any concerns to the relevant staff.
*
Provide feedback to teachers on how pupils engaged with the cover work.
*
Supervise students outside of lessons, e.g. during break, lunchtime or detentions, as directed.
*
Support administrative tasks, resource preparation or exam invigilation when not required for classroom cover.
*
Promote the school’s ethos, safeguarding principles and high expectations for all learners.
Person Specification (Essential)

Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
*
Experience of working with young people aged 11–18 (in a school, youth work or similar setting).

Ability to manage classroom behaviour confidently and fairly.
*
Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
*
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
*
Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equal opportunities.
