About Us
Mereside Medical is a flourishing group of three East Cambridgeshire practices in Ely, Haddenham and Soham, together serving c.45,000 patients. As a group, we’ve grown rapidly and now employ more than 170 people across the three practices. We are people-centred in our approach to work and believe that every contact that a patient has with our staff is as valuable as the next in the patient’s journey. We believe in clinical excellence, and that general practice is the cornerstone of well-being in our community. We are innovative and forward-looking, and we embrace technology to enable more effective, efficient, and connected ways of working to deliver ever better outcomes for our patients.
Our goal is to deliver on the ambitions laid out in the GP forward view in a way that is locally relevant, valued by patients, and satisfying for our staff. In addition to our core general practice work, we run a large clinical research trials unit, and we work closely with the ICB to develop innovative ways to improve local service provision. We are the lead practice for one of the two local PCNs and are represented in both.
The Role
Pharmacy technicians play a very important role, complementing clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists and other members of the PCN multi-disciplinary team. The pharmacy technician will provide support to the network as a whole and each member practice as needed. The aim is to improve the quality of prescribing and patient outcomes across the network through high quality medicines review and optimisation.

* Support care home residents with reconciliation, synchronisation, safety training, and medication changes.
Medication Reviews
* Level 1 – technical review of prescription – such as tidying up repeats, synchronisation, checking compliance and understanding, identifying patient concerns, looking for interactions. (This would usually lead to a more targeted review by the clinical pharmacist).
Clinical and Operational Support
* Implement and monitor electronic repeat dispensing and shared care protocols
* Support antimicrobial stewardship and evidence-based prescribing
* Assist in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and large-scale medication switches or formulary updates
* Promote prescribing efficiency, safety, and best practice across the Primary Care Network (PCN)
* Supervise prescription processing, improve medicines optimisation, and help meet QOF, DES, and CQC targets.
Communication and Collaboration
* Liaise with GPs, pharmacists, nurses, and local pharmacies to resolve medication issues and ensure safe transitions of care
* Maintain professional and sensitive communication with patients, considering accessibility and consent
* Contribute to shared learning and consistency across PCN practices.
Audit, Records and Compliance
* Maintain accurate clinical records on SystmOne
* Support audits, data collection, and performance reporting
* Uphold confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding, and infection control standards.
Learning and Development
* Maintain GPhC registration and CPD portfolio.
* Engage in supervision, appraisal, and quality improvement activities.
* Participate in staff training, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary education sessions.
General Duties
* Follow policies and procedures, manage workload effectively, and report incidents or complaints promptly.
* Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
* Adhere to health and safety standards and uphold the professional image of the PCN.
You should have or be:
* GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above)

* Strong communication, organisation, and IT skills
* Experience managing patient medication and using clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne)
* Resilience, teamwork, and self-motivation
* Enhanced DBS, satisfactory references, and ability to travel locally.
It would be an advantage if you are also:
* 3 years’ primary care experience
* Further qualifications/training
* Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of duties. The need for flexibility is required, and the post holder is expected to carry out any other related duties that are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
