Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine

The closing date is 06 January 2026

Do you have what it takes to be part of our Acute Medicine team? This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a redesigned Acute Medical Unit as part of the expansion of our urgent care facilities.

We are looking for a motivated individual, passionate about acute medicine who is looking for an opportunity to join our team of substantive consultants.

The Acute Medical Unit is part of our "Ground Floor" urgent and emergency care model, a journey that began with the opening of our state‑of‑the‑art Emergency Department and CT and MRI suite. The unit brings together acute medicine, a high‑observation facility and Same Day Emergency Care into one expansive facility, further supported by an 18‑bed short‑stay acute ward.

This role is fixed term for 12 months and will be reviewed and extended based on successful completion of required competencies towards CESR within 3 years of appointment.

Main duties of the job

You will be based in the heart of the action within our vibrant Acute Service, using your skills, knowledge and experience to provide rapid assessment of patients, supported by a full Multidisciplinary Team. You will deliver a first‑class clinical service, providing leadership to resident doctors, ACPs and medical students.

The position will service the Acute Medical Unit which houses 38 beds and admits an average of 42 patients per day, and our co‑located Same Day Emergency Care Unit which sees an average of 45 patients a day. In addition, there is an 18‑bed acute short‑stay ward which runs a Consultant‑of‑the‑week model.

About us

The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts – Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) – our partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world‑class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As teaching hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas – biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.

We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our partnership and our community.
