Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 4:00pm, Friday 7:30am - 12:30pm (39 hours per week) Duration: Ongoing contract (6 months) The Role We are looking for an experienced Assembly Fitter to join a busy engineering team in Birkenhead. The role involves dismantling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling mechanical and rail-related components, ensuring all work meets high quality and safety standards. Main Responsibilities Dismantle, clean, inspect, and reassemble a variety of rail and mechanical equipment Work independently or as part of a team to meet production deadlines Overhaul and test components including brake systems, actuators, couplers, and discs Set up and operate test rigs, interpret results, and make adjustments as required Identify and resolve faults, escalating complex issues to the relevant personnel Read and follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation Contribute to continuous improvement activities such as 5S and efficiency projects Maintain tools, gauges, and equipment in good working order Support shift handovers and assist with training when required Always adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies Carry out additional related tasks as directed by management Skills and Experience Required Strong general engineering background (essential) Previous experience in assembly, manufacturing, or overhaul environments (essential) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (essential) Time-served mechanical fitter (desirable) Basic electrical knowledge or bias (desirable) Interested?
