Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Precision CNC Machined Parts Location: Southampton, England, United Kingdom
Our client is a leading manufacturer of subsystems incorporating precision CNC machined parts, serving high-performance sectors.
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in the design, development, and optimisation of precision CNC machined components. This hands-on engineering role focuses on technical excellence, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes.
Design mechanical parts for CNC machining with a focus on functionality, tolerancing, and manufacturability (using SolidWorks)
Create accurate 2D/3D technical drawings and documentation to support production and quality control
Perform static and dynamic mechanical analysis to validate structural integrity under real-world conditions
Conduct thermal simulations and CFD to assess heat dissipation and optimise airflow design
Specify and assess surface treatments and coatings for durability, optical performance, or thermal requirements
Identify and implement design improvements to enhance part performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness
Support root-cause analysis and apply engineering solutions to production and quality issues
Contribute to process improvement initiatives within machining and assembly workflows
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Approx 5 years of experience in mechanical part design and development, with a focus on CNC machined parts, including 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawing creation
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and engineering analysis tools
In-depth understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and tolerances
Skilled in performing mechanical analysis (static and dynamic) using tools like ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar
Hands-on experience with thermal simulations and CFD tools for evaluating heat transfer and airflow
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection moulding, sheet metal, and 3D printing
anodising, coating, polishing) for functional or aesthetic purposes
Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other quality improvement methodologies
