We are looking for an experienced and people-focused Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of talented software engineers. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and delivery accountability, ensuring high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions are delivered in line with business goals and customer needs.

You will foster a high-performance engineering culture, promote continuous improvement, and work closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to turn complex requirements into robust technical solutions.


What You'll Be Doing

1. Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, supporting performance, career growth, and wellbeing
2. Plan, prioritise, and deliver engineering work to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards
3. Promote and ensure adoption of best practices across the SDLC, including coding standards, testing, security, and documentation
4. Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
5. Own technical delivery for assigned products or platforms, managing risks, dependencies, and technical debt
6. Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and ways of working (e.g. Agile, CI/CD)
7. Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality engineering talent
8. Ensure compliance with relevant UK regulations, data protection requirements, and internal governance standards

What We're Looking For


Qualifications

9. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
10. Professional certifications in Agile, Scrum, or software delivery (e.g. Scrum Master, SAFe) – desirable
11. AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer) – desirable
12. Management or leadership training qualifications – advantageous

Essential Experience

13. Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in a commercial environment
14. Strong hands-on background in modern software development, including:Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, TailwindBackend: Python, RESTful APIs
15. Experience delivering scalable, reliable, and secure systems in cloud-based and distributed environments
16. Extensive experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and VPC
17. Strong working knowledge of GitHub, including pull request workflows, branching strategies, and CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions)
18. Experience using engineering and operational tooling such as Jira, Confluence, PagerDuty, or similar platforms
19. Solid understanding of Agile and Lean delivery methodologies and modern DevOps practices
20. Experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams
21. Good understanding of software quality, security, observability, and performance best practices

Desirable Experience

22. Familiarity with Azure, Docker, and Terraform
23. Knowledge of UK data protection principles (e.g. UK GDPR) and relevant employment practices

Benefits include:

24. Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum, depending on experience
25. Car Allowance: £6,936 per annum
