Unqualified Teacher – Portsmouth
Prospero Teaching is recruiting confident and proactive Unqualified Teachers to support secondary schools in the Portsmouth area. This role involves stepping into the classroom in the teacher’s absence, delivering pre‑prepared lesson materials, and ensuring pupils remain engaged and focused throughout the lesson.
You will be responsible for leading classes, maintaining behaviour expectations, and supporting students with their work. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical classroom experience and is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, teaching assistants, tutors, youth workers, sports coaches, or anyone with experience working with young people.
Work is available on a full‑time or flexible day‑to‑day basis depending on your availability.
The Role:
1. Deliver pre‑planned lessons across a range of subjects
2. Lead classes independently and maintain classroom routines
3. Manage behaviour in line with school expectations
4. Support students with tasks and general learning queries
5. Cover a variety of subjects as required
6. Provide cover for both pre‑booked and short‑notice absences
7. Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
8. Experience working with young people (schools, coaching, tutoring, mentoring, etc.)
9. Confident managing a classroom environment
10. Strong communication and organisational skills
11. Calm, adaptable, and professional approach
12. Comfortable covering different subjects
13. Graduates and aspiring teachers strongly encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
14. Position: Unqualified Teacher
15. Location: Portsmouth
16. Start Date: ASAP
17. Working Pattern: Full‑time or day‑to‑day
18. Pay Rate: Up to £130 per day
19. Key Stages: KS3-KS4
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
20. Experience working with young people essential
21. Behaviour‑management experience beneficial
22. Safeguarding training can be provided
