The Infantry Battle School in Wales is looking for a passionate Welfare Officer to join our dynamic and supportive Welfare department. The Unit Welfare Officer is a key player in a small team that provide welfare support to the approximately 300 military personnel serving in The Infantry Battle School, plus their families. You will likely be the first point of contact for those wishing to access welfare support. In this role, you will work closely with both civilian and military personnel, fostering a collaborative environment that is vital for delivering exceptional training. Your hands-on approach and organisational skills will be essential as you navigate the demands of this business-facing position. Key responsibilities: Deliver first-line welfare support to Service Personnel (SP) and their entitled dependents on the posted strength of the unit. Develop and manage relationships with all Welfare Stakeholders, including, but not exclusive to, Soldiers, Sailors & Airmens Families Association (SSAFA), civilian/military education services, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Mental Health Service (MHS) and other welfare/families agencies. Lead in the planning and delivery of IBS welfare events. Manage the administration and bookings of the Unit Welfare Contact House. Manage use of the welfare centre and calendar, linking with the Army Welfare Service (AWS), Child Support, Youth Clubs, Family use, IBS and 160X Brigade (Bde) as appropriate. Attend and organise welfare meetings with AWS and 160X Bde. Lead on all financial applications to improve welfare in Dering Lines. Regional point of contact for Dering Lines and collaborate with other welfare contacts and agencies to support welfare provision. Manage the Wounded, Injured and Sick Management Information System (WISMIS) and any associated visits. Attend Unit Health Care (UHC) meetings and brief the HQ IBS Chain of Command, when necessary, on individual cases within the code of confidentiality. Conduct other duties and tasks as directed by the chain of command. Gain a good working knowledge of the relevant Joint Service Publication (JSPs) and Army General and Administrative Instructions (AGAIs) Once in the post, the successful candidate will be expected to complete several courses and required training; these include but are not limited to: Trauma Risk Management (TRIM) Mental Health First Aid Emergency First Aid at Work Does this sound like the opportunity youve been waiting for? Person specification Essential skills required: Previous experience of managing tasks, stakeholders, and outputs with minimal supervision. You need to be able to engage with staff at all grades so the ability to build effective working relationships, demonstrating empathy and understanding, while remaining focused and objective is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Enthusiasm - we need someone who can drive their own personal and professional development and workload. Motivation - you need to be able to motivate and develop others to reach common goals but be resilient to challenges and adaptable to the changing workload. Good organisation skills - the work can sometimes be complex with many different tasks running concurrently so you will need to manage people, resources, and your own time effectively to balance the varying demands of the post. Previous experience and knowledge of the Microsoft suite of applications. This is a varied, interesting and at times challenging post requiring a high level of communication and organisational skills as well as the ability to adapt, often at short notice, to changing priorities.
