Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist – 32182
We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to be part of the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, analysing the implications of the Independent Water Commission’s report. The successful candidate will shape the future of the Environment Agency, ensuring continued protection of the environment and support for sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, balanced and evidence‑based advice to support future thinking around the IWC report recommendations, including the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA and other regulators to align thinking and ensure others are brought along in the development of EA’s future shape and design.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while keeping pace in a fast‑moving working environment.
* Assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needs arise.
* Actively contribute to creating the conditions for a high‑performing, agile team to thrive and remain resilient in the face of high demand and ambiguity.
Experience / Skills Required
* Experience developing policy with central government, working with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strong strategic thinking and execution skills.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice on short notice.
* Experience working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
Additional Information
* EA Office base location; national role with flexible working.
* Some travel may be required, including occasional overnight stays.
* Contract length: up to 12 months.
