Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Job Description
An exciting job role exists in the Cyber and Security Team as the Cryptographic Security Manager. This post is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop and progress their careers. This role works within the inclusive and innovative Cyber and Security team, part of the Information Directorate within Army Headquarters, a diverse and highly capable workforce.
The Cryptographic Security Manager is responsible for all current and future Cryptographic security requirements for the Army, including supporting the routine and novel movement, transport and storage as required. The role will ensure that Army handling of cryptographic material is compliant with wider Government and Defence direction. You will advise the Army Principal Security Advisor, Chief Security Officer & Senior Information Risk Officer on current and future cryptographic security risks being managed/tolerated in the Army. Additionally, the individual will advise and support the wider cryptographic leadership and user community as required.
Secure behaviours play an integral role in protecting both the UK, and our Armed Forces, against external and internal threats. Through this role, you will have the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the security risks facing the Army across the physical, cyber and personnel domains. You will also become a member of the Government Security Profession, and there are further opportunities for continued professional development.
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who is a team player but is equally comfortable working on their own to assure physical, personnel, cyber and information security and ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of Army operated and managed systems and networks.
The successful candidate must be comfortable engaging with wider Defence, Government, and industry. Occasional travel within the UK will be required but this will rarely demand overnight stays.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Required To:
* Represent Directorate Information and Chief Security Officer on Defence Digital run cryptographic security requirements meetings
* Lead on Army cryptographic security policy and shaping wider MOD Policy
* Planning and managing the security implications of obsolescence and Last Year of Use (LYOU) of Cryptographic assets used by the Army
* Engage and liaise across the Army on the assurance of Cryptographic holdings
* Engage, liaise and support the management of Cryptographic security matters in support of Directorate Programmes & Directorate Futures on planned future requirements for Cryptographic solutions across the Army equipment programs
* Lead on casual courier request approval on behalf of the Chief Security Officer

Person specification
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who can handle the pressure of coordinating a wide range of activities and should be comfortable working within the cryptographic management profession, willing to challenge established norms and process and be prepared to adapt to changing priorities. Applicants should also have effective written and verbal communication skills and display a positive and professional attitude. Good judgement and strong interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work under pressure.
Essential
* A good understanding of current and emerging technologies for delivering Information Security Services in the public or private sector
* An understand of the key elements of personnel, physical and cyber security
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Able to work at pace and under pressure
Desirable
* A recognized cyber security qualification such as Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
* Experience of managing a MOD Cryptographic account or wider Government Cryptographic management experience
* Working knowledge of Information Assurance & Government Functional Standard – GovS 007: Security (previously HMG IA Standard No. 4, Protective Security Controls for the Handling and Management of Cryptographic Items, IS4)
* Passed the Facility Security Clearance (FSC) Cryptographic Custodian Course
* Understanding of casual courier rules
* Experience of the management of technical security risk
* Working knowledge of JSP 490
* Management and Leadership experience
