Offer description

The role

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a Senior Research Associate to join a multi-disciplinary research team of mathematical modelers, epidemiologists, and health economists based in Population Health Sciences in Bristol Medical School. This two-year post is funded by a number of international studies, which will use modelling and data analysis to guide the prevention and treatment response for hepatitis B virus (HBV) in a number of countries, including Ethiopia and Uzbekistan. The post-holder will contribute expertise in epidemiological methods to analyse detailed datasets and undertake mathematical modelling of the transmission dynamics and impact of interventions on HBV.

Hybrid working is available- to be agreed with the line manager.

What will you be doing?

The post will involve undertaking mathematical modelling and detailed epidemiological analyses focussed on evaluating the impact of existing and new interventions addressing the epidemics of HBV in several low- and middle- income countries. You will be involved in the technical aspects of modelling, developing models of HBV transmission, and undertaking in-depth data analyses for standalone papers and to parameterise the models. You will also be involved in economic evaluations. You will collaborate with other members of the team involved in these projects. There may also be the opportunity to collaborate on projects which focus on other infections and population groups - including undertaking systematic reviews, epidemiological analyses, mathematical modelling and cost-effectiveness analyses.

You should apply if

We are looking for applicants with experience in mathematical modelling of HBV. You must have experience of developing and coding up dynamical models (using Matlab, R or similar), and the ability to design and undertake modelling experiments involving data and uncertainty. Skills in undertaking epidemiological data analyses are essential (using STATA, R or similar packages). You will have strong IT and communication skills and work effectively within a team environment that includes non-mathematicians. It is desirable that you have an interest in the health issues of individuals in lower- and middle-income countries and have experience in undertaking systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
