Overview
Applicants are invited to join the existing Gastroenterology Team at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust as a Locum Consultant on a 12‑month fixed term contract. The role supports the delivery of high‑quality, timely endoscopy care, outpatient clinics and inpatient care across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver general and specialist Gastroenterology services to patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
* Provide endoscopy services in a 3‑room suite at QHB and a 2‑room suite at the Sir Robert Peel Hospital, including colonoscopy, large polyp EMR, PEGs, and inpatient endoscopy.
* Participate in outpatient clinics and inpatient ward cover across UHDB sites.
* Support the national bowel cancer screening programme.
* Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Specialists, IBD nurses, upper GI cancer nurses, nutrition and dietician teams to maintain care delivery.
* Work within the current ward cover system and provide on‑call service, with a current commitment to 1:16 general medical on‑call.
* Potential to develop specialist interest in IBD, nutrition, GI cancer or therapeutic endoscopy.
Qualifications & Experience
* Full time Consultant in Gastroenterology, either a StR acquiring CCT or an established consultant.
* Experience in a large department providing luminal and hepatology services.
* Active GMC registration and the ability to work towards CESR/Portfolio Pathway to achieve GMC specialist registration during the contract.
