Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology

The Urology Department at Royal Derby Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Locally Employed Clinical Fellow starting on 26th December 2025 to 1st April 2026 with a possible extension to post. The department are looking for an enthusiastic experienced individual to join a forward thinking and proactive Urology team of 12 consultants, supporting in the delivery of a full range of urological services.
This position is designed to offer advanced experience in urological surgery, with previous candidates having successfully secured National Training Numbers following their placement at Royal Derby Hospital. The appointed fellow will be actively involved in emergency and elective urology activities, including inpatient theatres, day case procedures, and outpatient clinics. Furthermore, the post holder will participate in the Resident Doctor on-call rota within the urology department.
This post is to cover a specific period. The successful candidate must have completed all pre-employment checks and be available to commence from 26th December 2025
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have previous experience in the urology speciality, with the expectation that the post holder will undertake independent outpatient clinics, flexible cystoscopy sessions and act as first assistant in theatre. Undertaking the continued care & treatment of patients pre and post-operatively.
The post holder will have exposure to a wide range of training opportunities in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as the opportunity to attend departmental teaching.

Job responsibilities
Applicants should have completed foundation training (or equivalent) and have a minimum of two years training within surgery and urology.
Possession of the MBBS, plus full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of application is essential.

Qualifications & Eligibility
* MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
* MRCS or approved overseas equivalent
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
* Life Support Qualifications BLS & ALS
* Additional higher medical/scientific postgraduate degree relevant to the General Surgery specialty e.g Diploma
* Distinctions, prizes, awards or scholarships. Presentations and publications
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* Completed at least two years UK training within general surgery and urology (not including foundation years)
* Minimum 6 months UK experience in Urology Surgery beyond foundation jobs
* Minimum 1 year NHS experience
* Post graduate teaching qualification
Management & Administrative Experience
* Commitment to Continuing Professional Development & the requirements of clinical governance, reporting errors and learning from these
Teaching, Research & Audit
* Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
* Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
* Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice.
* Evidence of interest & experience in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching.
