Overview

The commissioned integrated axess Liverpool Sexual Health service is responsible for level 3 contraception and STI care at the East Cheshire clinics, alongside multiple community pharmacies and GP practices. The team includes 3 consultants (2.8 WTE) available to work in parallel with the post holder to support development needs. Services provided include complex contraception and a full range of STI treatment including complex STI management and STI prevention. The clinical team of specialist nurses and HCAs will be available to share ways of working within practice. The service uses Idox Health "Lilie" system for patient records, and full training is provided if needed.

The post-holder will:

* Be approachable, non-judgemental and responsive to patients\' needs irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or sexuality.
* Provide accurate and up-to-date information on contraception, sexual and reproductive health and sexually transmitted infections to patients and other professionals.
* Assess, examine and treat patients presenting to clinics or drop-in services including history taking, examination and provision of appropriate contraceptive and reproductive health advice
This includes:
o Issue of oral contraceptives / patch / vaginal ring / emergency hormonal contraception / barrier methods
o Issue and administer injectable methods of contraception
o Counsel & offer Long Acting Reversible Contraception as per NICE guidance
o Insertion, review and removal of intrauterine methods
o Insertion & removal of contraceptive subdermal implants
o Provide pre-pregnancy advice to women planning a pregnancy
o Undertake pregnancy testing
o Support and give advice regarding unplanned pregnancies and referring for termination of pregnancy as per local policy
o Undertake cervical cytology
o Ensure smooth running of the clinic by supporting nursing staff working to PGDs
o Give medical advice over the telephone during a clinical session to other doctors, nurses, pharmacists or other professional groups
o Provide information and advice on sexually transmitted infections
o Perform male and female examinations as appropriate, take appropriate tests and recognise any abnormal findings
o Assessment and management of asymptomatic STI
o Assessment and management of patients presenting with symptoms indicative of STI (e.g. pelvic pain, vaginal/urethral discharge, testicular pain, genital lesions & rash, systemic symptoms such as syphilis)
o Provide preventative care (e.g. vaccinations, pre-exposure HIV prophylaxis, doxyPEP)
o Promote safe sex messages encouraging condom use
o Respect patient needs and wishes
o When treating patients under 18 ensure that the under-18 risk assessment proforma is completed and that Fraser Guidance and safeguarding procedures are observed
o Stay up to date with national clinical guidelines (FSRH, BASHH, NICE/government guidelines) and issues related to child protection
o Familiarise with local guidelines, procedures and clinical protocols and proformas and adhere to these
o Participate in clinical governance and clinical audit in Sexual and Reproductive Health
o Ensure confidentiality and privacy at all times
* Training & Education
o Take an active role in the existing training programmes for DFSRH trainees, medical students, and other health professionals
o Support the existing training programme for Registered Practitioners (nurses/midwives) undergoing training for PGDs, non-medical prescribing and cervical cytology
o Support and contribute to the professional development of medical, nursing and other staff as appropriate
* Communication
o Maintain good communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team and external health care professionals such as GPs, Practice Nurses and Specialists in Secondary Care
* Personal Development
o Maintain appropriate professional registration and ensure working within professional competencies
o Complete all statutory and mandatory training relevant for the post
o Identify own training needs and attend agreed relevant courses/study days
o Actively seek learning opportunities via networking with peers in other organisations
o Participate in the NHS Appraisal process and all activities required for revalidation
* Service Responsibilities
o Have a good understanding of and follow the organisation\'s policies and procedures
o Work as part of the sexual health team to maintain a positive and productive team environment
o Alert axess Sexual Health management promptly to problems in service delivery or concerns about clinical and non-clinical colleagues
o Provide information and assurance regarding Working Time Directive and hours worked
o Contribute to and participate in the management of complaints and concerns where appropriate
o Participate in clinical governance, appraisal, local and national audit, standard setting, research and quality control as appropriate
o Actively support ongoing service development by highlighting areas of concern or risk via the clinical incident reporting system (Datix)
o Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
o Excellent patient communication, effective teaching
o Ability to organise and prioritise workload, delegate responsibilities and supervise staff
o Ability to undertake robust audit within the team
o Ability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams
* Management of asymptomatic and symptomatic sexually transmitted infections
* Contraception, Sexual and Reproductive Health
* Desirable criteria
o Clinical experience in other aspects of women\'s sexual health (e.g., vulval disease, psychosexual counselling)
o Knowledge and principles of resource and budget management
o Understanding importance of clinician in management
o Awareness of core NHS values in its modern structure
o Full GMC registration
o Vocationally trained and accredited GP with MRCGP
o Faculty qualifications: DFSRH, LoC SDI, LoC IUT
o Trained in cervical cytology
* Desirable criteria
o Faculty Registered Trainer status
o Attendance at a STIF course
o DipGUM
o You must have appropriate UK professional registration

This is a part-time vacancy at Salaried GP level in integrated Sexual Health at axess sexual health, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at our Axess East Cheshire Crewe location. Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and should be on the GMC GP register. This is a less than full time post with flexible working hours dependant on candidate needs, and a job-share would be considered. Salary will be mapped to the NHS Salaried GP range.
