Trading Standards Officer – Food Safety Inspections

£57.39 per hour
Locum Contract | Full-Time
Sanctuary Personnel is currently recruiting for an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join Gloucestershire, supporting the delivery of food safety inspections and regulatory enforcement activities across the county.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Trading Standards professional with food safety experience to work within a highly respected local authority team, helping to protect consumers and ensure businesses remain compliant with current legislation.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out food standards inspections and enforcement visits at commercial premises across Gloucestershire
* Investigate potential breaches of trading standards and food legislation
* Conduct interviews in line with PACE 1984 and relevant regulatory requirements
* Gather evidence, prepare detailed reports, and support legal proceedings where required
* Undertake product and service sampling to identify non-compliance issues
* Provide guidance and advice to businesses regarding their legal responsibilities
* Maintain accurate case files, inspection records, and enforcement documentation
* Deliver enforcement activity flexibly to reflect business operating hours
* Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory developments within Trading Standards and Food Safety
* Adhere to council policies, professional standards, and employee codes of conduct
Essential Requirements
* Relevant Trading Standards qualification, including food-specific qualifications where applicable
* Experience carrying out food standards inspections and regulatory enforcement work
* Strong understanding of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement procedures
* Experience conducting investigations and preparing evidence for prosecution
* Knowledge of PACE legislation and investigative interviewing techniques
* Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills
* Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
