Platform Engineer - SCADA
Location: Warwick (Hybrid - flexible, onsite when required)
Rate: £550‑£600 per day
Contract: 6‑month fixed‑term contract (strong likelihood of extension or transition to permanent)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Platform Engineer to support and evolve SCADA platforms operating within OT and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) environments. This role sits within a newly forming SCADA Platform Engineering team and offers the opportunity to work on systems that underpin essential national services.
SCADA experience is welcome but not essential - strong Platform Engineers with the right mindset will be supported through structured training.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day platform and application support for SCADA systems.
* Ensure platforms, servers, databases, and tooling are secure, stable, and compliant.
* Manage platform and server operations, including patching, configuration, and automation.
* Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and PowerShell.
* Coordinate deployments, changes, and upgrades with robust testing and quality assurance.
* Support delivery activities within the SCADA transformation programme, including migration to Monarch SCADA.
* Operate within SLA‑driven support models and collaborate with vendors (e.g. AspenTech DGM).
* Contribute to the SCADA platform roadmap, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
* Act as a technical point of contact for stakeholders across operations, engineering, and change teams.
* Support and deliver SCADA platform training for internal users.
* Collaborate closely within a growing SCADA platform team.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Experience as a Platform Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Application Support Engineer.
* Strong understanding of Windows/Linux environments and IT service management (incident, problem, change).
* Proven scripting and automation experience (Python / PowerShell).
* Adaptable approach with a willingness to learn SCADA and OT technologies.
Desirable
* Experience with SCADA systems or OT environments.
* Background in Utilities, Energy, or CNI sectors.
* Exposure to SCADA architecture, OT security, or vendor‑supported platforms.
Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, STEM discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
