Job Description:
Job Purpose
The University of Glasgow is co-leading a consortium of seven universities to support a new national research program funded by UKRI and stakeholders, focusing on digital twinning for transport decarbonisation. This involves managing a significant research team led by the Hub Manager, with support from two project and industrial engagement managers (PIEMs). The research hub, led by Heriot-Watt University, aims to deliver new knowledge, technical capabilities, and policy advice on UK transport decarbonisation, supported by over 65 industrial, research, and stakeholder organisations.
The PIEM will oversee research teams across all partners, manage work packages, and ensure industrial engagement and stakeholder communication. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to a transformative research programme aimed at advancing transport decarbonisation and strengthening industrial and policy networks.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manage and report on research work packages and demonstrators across academic and industrial partners, including timelines, milestones, risk registers, and deliverables.
2. Lead Challenge Led Demonstrator projects using agile approaches.
3. Manage resourcing and research outputs of Work Packages with academic leadership.
4. Coordinate activities across WPs and CLDs to respect interdependencies.
5. Maintain risk registers and manage mitigation strategies.
6. Maintain performance dashboards and KPI reporting.
7. Update project plans and oversee resource and financial reporting.
8. Ensure industrial engagement, manage stakeholder communications, and maintain an engagement register.
9. Support policy engagement through reporting and bilateral interactions.
10. Manage cross-learning with related research hubs.
11. Prepare monthly and bi-annual reports on progress, risks, and engagement.
12. Resolve complex issues using specialist knowledge and judgment.
13. Undertake other relevant duties as needed.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* Demonstrated competencies and professional knowledge in a similar or various specialist roles, or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9-11 qualifications, including management experience.
* Knowledge of financial management, project management methodologies, and policies on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Desirable:
* Professional qualification such as PRINCE2 or membership of a professional body.
* Knowledge of transport, decarbonisation policies, UKRI reporting, and higher education research policies.
Skills
Essential:
* Leadership, motivation, and team management skills.
* Proficiency in IT tools like MS Project.
* Extensive project management expertise.
* Understanding of legal, statutory, and governance issues.
* Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, analyze complex information, and prioritize effectively.
Experience
Essential:
* Experience in project management within research or software development environments.
* Stakeholder engagement experience.
* Experience with Agile project management approaches.
Desirable:
* Experience in Higher Education research.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum. Full-time, 35 hours/week. Funding until 30 June 2029.
