Overview

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25,000), and any role-specific criteria.

We have a current vacancy for a Band 6 Neonatal nurse. If you are currently working as a Band 6 and are looking for a new challenge or are a Band 5 looking for career progression, this could be the job for you. The right candidate must be qualified in speciality (ENB 405 or Neonatal Pathway) with good leadership and communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Opportunities available to join special interest groups within the team, with potential after gaining sufficient experience to join the neonatal emergency transfer team.

Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year, pro rata

Contract: Permanent

Working pattern: Part-time

Location: Princess Royal Hospital, Lewes Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4EX


Main duties of the job

* The post holder will be a proficient clinical practitioner who will take charge of the ward in the absence of the ward sister.
* They will support the ward sister in her role and will be able to supervise, mentor and teach junior staff, acting as a role-model, in order to ensure that optimum standards of care are delivered at all times to neonates and their families.
* In conjunction with the ward sister they are responsible for ensuring that trust policies and procedures are adhered to and that trust objectives are met.
* The post holder will require effective communication skills and an ability to ensure effective core team working.
* The post holder will be required to participate in their continuing professional development and other development activities, including mentorship and contribute to the professional development of colleagues.
* The post holder will work across Haywards Heath & Brighton to cover the neonatal service, as required.

Responsibilities and Requirements

Responsibilities:

* Manage a group of assigned patients, recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the neonate and to take appropriate action.
* Plan, assess, implement and evaluate nursing care for neonates. Co-ordinate patient care and start planning for discharge from admission by liaising with multidisciplinary team and neonatal outreach.
* Provide information and support for families, liaising with relevant support services as appropriate.
* Ensure a high standard of documentation which is accurate, legible and meets all legal requirements.
* Able to set up, use and maintain all equipment used on patients within the ward and attend training as necessary.
* Recognise and assess emergencies occurring in neonates, and take appropriate action.
* Able to administer intravenous therapy safely.
* Maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming ward environment for families, visitors and staff and where family centred care is practiced.
* Display an understanding and supportive attitude towards colleagues to create a pleasant work environment.
* Ensure clinical practice is research based. Contribute to the implementation of practice enhancements, seeking support and guidance. Take personal responsibility to develop an awareness of local, regional and national objectives, policies and political agenda.
* Work within the Code of Professional Conduct and all other NMC directives.
* Keep post-registration education and practice up to date and in line with knowledge and skills outline.

Managerial and organisational:

* Will take charge of the ward, demonstrating the ability to delegate and supervise. Will deploy nursing staff within the team and ensure the provision of skill mix necessary to maintain the patient and staff safety, utilising resources efficiently.
* Work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to the mutual benefit of neonates and their families.
* Assist and support senior staff in the setting and monitoring quality of standards and auditing in relation to evidence based clinical practice.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications (Essential):

* Registered Nurse or Midwife
* Neonatal Pathway Holder
* NLS
* Specialised experience of neonatal intensive care equipment
* ENB 405/Qualified in speciality. ENB 998/mentorship module.

Desirable:

* Nursing Degree, Leadership course, ARNI

Experience (Essential):

* Substantial months post QIS
* Proven skills and knowledge in clinical practice

Desirable:

* Knowledge of high frequency oscillation and Nitric Oxide Therapy

Management Skills (Essential):

* Demonstrates leadership skills
* Ability to mentor others
* Ability to work under own initiative

Desirable:

* Ability to work under pressure

Communication (Essential):

* Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable:

* Experience of Family Integrated Care

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (Essential):

* Evidence of championing diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role)
* Evidence of undertaking own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
