Calderdale’s district nursing teams have established 5 community hubs, each with its own unique and diverse needs. This is a part time community phlebotomist position in Calderdale, with working hours 8am – 12pm, Monday – Friday. An informal visit to see our hubs in action and meet the teams is welcome. Due to the nature of the work it is essential you have the means to travel to a number of destinations within work hours.
We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.
Responsibilities
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
* Work unsupervised undertaking domiciliary visits. A full driving license and access to a vehicle is essential along with business insurance.
* Undertake surveys/audits when requested to do so.
* Attend to staff and patients queries, referring appropriately.
* Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations.
* Use of a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet and work related emails.
* It will be necessary to cover other staff when required.
* Any duties as defined by the manager/Team leader in charge.
* Collect blood samples into appropriate containers and record details; obtain and record medical information from patients where appropriate.
* Collect blood samples from patients with varying disabilities, behavioural problems, patients who faint/vomit and manage distressed patients in a sensitive manner.
* Explain procedures to patients; use persuasive skills and reassurance for needle-phobic individuals.
* Assist patients to dress and undress if necessary.
* Prepare work areas and manage stock to minimise waste.
* Inter-departmental liaison; support new and less experienced colleagues with training.
* Be open and honest and learn from mistakes.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Awareness of the need to report concerns regarding a patient’s condition and safeguarding.
* Mandatory training compliance and awareness of policies and procedures relating to the Trust and division.
* Travel to various destinations within work hours; full driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance are essential.
* Managemnet of duties as defined by the manager/Team leader; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Basic use of IT for booking appointments, intranet access and work emails.
