Alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key part of making Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are recruiting a Senior Construction Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar, Cleveland, Teesside.
Role Purpose
1. Assist the Area Project Manager with scope definition, planning, and daily execution of the construction project, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
2. Manage all aspects of mechanical and electrical installation, promoting high safety standards. Supervise all construction activities to ensure safety and adherence to plans.
3. Oversee all technical aspects during the construction phase, including scope, design reviews, TQ's, and subcontractor oversight.
4. Report to the Area Project Manager and liaise with team members such as Quality, QS, Design, and Planning.
What you'll be doing
Responsibilities include:
* Create work packages aligned with the execution strategy, assist with modularisation and fabrication yard assessments.
* Ensure all work packages are delivered safely, in compliance with CDM regulations.
* Manage the construction site daily, supervise contractors, monitor subcontractors, check materials, inspect work, and oversee quality control.
* Deliver packages on time, within budget, and to safety and quality standards.
* Maintain accurate records: RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Drawings, and other communications.
* Visit suppliers and oversee their activities as needed.
* Accountable for subcontracted packages and deliverables.
* Participate in morning meetings to drive priorities and targets.
* Coordinate deliveries with the offsite fabrication team.
* Identify risks and raise EWNs to the Project Management team.
* Draft site instructions detailing work scope, location, program, and cost impacts.
* Provide cost and time estimates to support the program.
* Work with planning to keep progress reporting current and risks identified.
* Apply knowledge of engineering standards, including ATEX/DSEAR/ASME/EN.
* Engage with interfacing functions: Civil, Earthing, HV, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Commissioning.
Who we're looking for
Essential qualities and experience:
* Experienced Senior Construction Engineer with similar project background.
* Understanding of the business's technical and commercial context.
* Excellent planning and organizational skills.
* Proven project delivery record.
* UK onshore major project experience and CDM compliance.
* Experience managing modular projects and hazardous site activities, including high-pressure gas and high-voltage systems.
* Ability to review detailed plans and provide progress updates.
* Skills in risk identification and mitigation.
* Leadership skills with the ability to influence and communicate effectively.
* Valid CSCS card.
Desirable qualities and experience:
* Participation in industry events.
* Membership in professional bodies such as IET.
* Proficiency in O365.
* Valid driving license.
Additional qualifications:
* HNC/HND in Engineering/Construction or equivalent experience.
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ.
* SMSTS or equivalent.
* CCNSG / HS&E MAPS.
