Job Summary
UHP currently employs 6 FTE Interventional Neuroradiology consultants to deliver Mechanical Thrombectomy. The service is expanding to deliver a mechanical thrombectomy service and 24‑hour service for stroke. This post is to replace the 6th interventional neuroradiology consultant who will require a full range of skills in complex aneurysm work and mechanical thrombectomy to work as part of a team of 6 wte interventional neuroradiologists who can perform a full range of INR treatments, diagnostic neuroradiology on call and reporting.
Responsibilities
Post‑holders will be expected to cover diagnostic neuroradiology services including inpatient cover, reporting and clinical meetings, and to be a full member of the interventional neuroradiology team, including on call. They will perform a comprehensive range of interventional neuroradiology procedures, including mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke, and share responsibility for a comprehensive diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology service. They are expected to be actively involved in teaching for the Peninsula Medical School and Peninsula Radiology Training Programme, comply with Trust policies (job planning, appraisal, leave-taking) and participate in audit and clinical governance programs. Successful candidates will participate in providing 7‑day mechanical thrombectomy and intracranial aneurysm treatment services and support research interests in partnership with the Trust lead for R & D.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* Fellowship Royal College of Radiologists
* CCT in Radiology and entry on Specialist Register
* Experience in interventional neuroradiology procedures including stroke thrombectomy
* Experience in adult neuroimaging
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on full range of emergency and routine neuroradiological situations
* Ability to supervise radiology specialty trainees across a broad range of neuroimaging
* Experience in vertebral augmentation procedures and spinal biopsies (desirable)
* Experience in brain and spinal AVM treatments (desirable)
* Experience in spectroscopy, functional imaging and other advanced neuroimaging techniques (desirable)
Additional Requirements
* Ability to apply evidence‑based approach to management of clinical problems
* Evidence of completed audit projects
* Completion of clinical research, publications in peer‑reviewed journals, ability to undertake basic science research and lead research team (desirable)
* Teaching skills: ability to teach clinical and practical skills; experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students; ability to supervise postgraduate research (desirable)
* Well‑presented CV, good written and verbal communication, teamwork, caring attitude, commitment to continuing medical education, leadership qualities
* IT skills and willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national level (desirable)
* Management skills: ability to advise on efficient service running, participate in department, directorate and trust management, audit experience (desirable)
* Practical requirements: ability to work required hours, shifts, on‑call and move between sites if required
