We are looking for an Accounts/Audit Senior to join our growing team in the Central Belt area of Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning and Execution
* Plan, lead, and complete audit assignments, assessing risks and evaluating internal controls.
* Perform fieldwork and supervise junior team members during audits, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
* Analyse audit findings and propose improvements in controls and compliance.
* Liaise with clients to communicate audit objectives, progress, and results clearly and professionally.
* Review documentation for completeness and accuracy, in line with professional standards.
Accounts Preparation and Compliance
* Prepare and review annual accounts, financial statements, and management accounts for a varied client base.
* Oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns, corporation tax returns, and personal tax returns.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory deadlines.
* Provide proactive, value-driven financial advice tailored to client needs.
Client Relationship Management
* Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, becoming a trusted advisor.
* Understand clients' businesses, challenges, and opportunities, offering commercial insight and recommendations.
* Respond promptly to queries and deliver clear, professional communications throughout each engagement.
Team Development and Support
* Supervise and support junior team members, providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
* Foster a collaborative and inclusive working environment that promotes learning and knowledge sharing.
* Delegate tasks effectively, taking into account individual strengths and development goals.
Continuous Improvement and Professional Development
* Stay up to date with developments in audit, tax, and accounting standards.
* Identify opportunities to enhance client services and recommend improvements internally.
* Participate in internal audit meetings, learning sessions, and marketing/networking events.
* Promote the audit and accounts function as a key part of the firm’s growth and client offering.
Our Ideal Candidate
What you’ll need to be successful:
Experience: Prior experience in a similar role within an accountancy practice, with exposure to both audit and accounts.
Qualifications: Part or fully qualified in a professional accountancy qualification (e.g., ICAS, ACCA, ACA) is preferred, though support is available for the right candidate.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to explain complex information in a clear and professional manner.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of accounting and auditing principles, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
Team Player: Comfortable working independently or within a team, and supporting junior colleagues to achieve shared goals.
Adaptable & Proactive: Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, taking initiative and embracing continuous improvement.
