Job Overview
* Work as an integral part of the Major Trauma and HART service, providing Occupational Therapy (OT) cover 5 days a week Monday – Friday.
* To provide specialist OT assessment and intervention for patients with newly acquired brain and spinal cord injuries who have complex rehabilitation needs.
* Contribute to the rehabilitation prescriptions (RP) within timescales as per service specifications.
* To take part in service development, research and evaluation of the HART service.
* Contribute to data submission for UK Rehabilitation Outcomes Collaborative (UKROC).
* To work well as a multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) and be a positive role model and display a positive attitude within the division, trust, network and wider services.
* To be proactive in seeking relevant CPD/training opportunities as per requirements of professional registration.
Main duties of the job
* To work as part of a MDT liaising closely with medical, therapy and nursing staff across the network, to ensure pathways/protocols are followed and best practice delivered.
* Identify patients that meet HART criteria and gather relevant information from board round and MDT discussions.
* Attend handovers/MDT meetings as appropriate.
* To complete a robust OT assessment of patients.
* Monitor, evaluate and review OT interventions within a multidisciplinary framework and modify as necessary.
* Be responsible for identifying barriers to discharge/recovery at an early stage, and act on these within the MDT to ensure smooth patient journey.
* Work with external agencies and partners to ensure a seamless transfer of care.
* Provide advice to OT technicians, assistants and students on a range of issues pertinent to safe and effective discharge planning and promotion of independence.
* Order and advise on a range of specialist disability equipment utilising correct eligibility criteria.
* Complete and distribute rehabilitation prescription with support where required from senior member within the team.
* Ensure communication of all plans/findings to patient and/or family/carers as appropriate and signpost to additional support services.
* Provide follow up phone call to patients two weeks after discharge.
* Contribute to data submission for UK Rehabilitation Outcomes Collaborative (UKROC).
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* To maintain and update registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) including maintenance of a personal portfolio and to work within the scope of a professional practice as laid out by the HCPC code of professional conduct.
* Be a positive role model for all staff, patients and their carers.
* Act as an ambassador for the HART Service, Major Trauma Centre and NMSK Division both internal and external to the Severn Major Trauma Network/North Bristol NHS Trust.
* To work in accordance with Severn Major Trauma Network and North Bristol NHS Trust policies and procedures.
* Support North Bristol NHS Trust in the event of an internal or external major incident or mass casualty event, or pandemic.
Clinical Governance
* To contribute to and work within the HART Quality and Governance framework including identification and resolution (where appropriate) of governance issues, support audits and pathway evaluation.
* Identify and lead service improvement programmes to achieve service development as agreed with clinical and managerial leads.
* Be aware of and work within the policies of North Bristol NHS Trust, carrying out such duties as may require and are consistent with the responsibilities of the band.
Management and Leadership
* To support your senior manager being a significant clinical link for Matrons, Ward Sisters, Consultants and Rehabilitation department leads within North Bristol NHS Trust with regards to major trauma and the Hyper Acute Rehab Team.
* Liaise with the MTC & Network Manager with regards to operational and strategic issues within North Bristol NHS Trust.
* Promote the Major Trauma Centre as a centre of excellence for Major Trauma care.
* Exercise leadership and inspire colleagues to improve standards and quality to develop professional practice.
* Be confident in challenging concerns/queries regarding patient care.
Training
* Support a variety of training programme delivered by the Major Trauma Team as directed by clinical and managerial leads.
* To contribute towards health promotion for all patients providing educational advice and support.
* Mentor/coach junior staff members as directed.
* Be willing to take advantage of training opportunities.

Education / Training / Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* Allied Health Professional Degree (minimum degree level or equivalent)
* Post graduate therapy training (minimum 3 years)
Desirable Criteria
* Post graduate therapy training (3)
Work Experience
* Post registration experience, including working with traumatically injured patients (e.g., Emergency Department, ICU, Neurosurgery or Trauma & Orthopaedics) (minimum 3 years)
* Experience of co‑ordinating care for patients with traumatic injuries and/or specialist rehabilitation needs.
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience of research and quality improvement projects (Desirable).
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* To be able to undertake clinical skills associated with specialist therapist, or prepared to undertake training to achieve the clinical skills required.
The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
