Job Description
The Medical Administrator is the first point of contact for patients and the focus of communication between patients, doctors and medical staff.
* Receive and direct patients, handle telephone and general enquiries, and take messages.
* Make appointments, including home visits, and manage referrals and onward booking.
* Perform administrative workflow tasks in the clinical system, including EMIS Web.
* Keep work areas tidy, handle cash, manage data entry and record keeping.
* Provide support to clinicians and managers, including acting as chaperone when required.
* Follow health and safety procedures and other delegated duties.

* Communicate effectively to deliver excellent customer service.
* Promote teamwork with all staff.
* Identify and communicate problems and solutions promptly.
Experience
* Previous experience in an office environment.
* Medical receptionist experience.
* Experience using EMIS Web software.
Qualifications
* GCSE English or equivalent, Grade C or above.
* RSA II typing/word processing or equivalent (desirable).
Skills
* Proficient reading and writing in English.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
* Independent initiative and prioritisation to meet deadlines.
* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
* Good telephone manner.
Knowledge
* High standard of written and oral communication.
* Confidentiality and Data Protection Act awareness.
* Microsoft Word proficiency and basic Microsoft Office.
* Local area knowledge.
Personal Qualities
* Teamwork and flexible, co‑operative attitude.
* Reliability, time‑keeping and friendly approach.
* Willingness to undertake DBS checks and training.
* Ability to cope under pressure and adapt to change.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
