Are you an experienced Psychiatrist looking to develop into a consultant role?

We are looking to recruit to a Trust Locum Consultant post on a 2 year fixed term contract, with the opportunity to apply for the post on a permanent basis once obtained CCT through this great development opportunity.

This is a full time (10 PA) Consultant post working on a female acute inpatient ward (Beech Ward), based at Sherwood Oaks.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.


Main duties of the job

This post will primarily provide daily cover for inpatients on Beech Ward at Sherwood Oaks. Due to the recent reconfiguration of the Trust, the post holder will also have responsibility for patients admitted from outside the primary area, mainly from Nottingham City. These admissions are shared among other consultants on the unit following an established formula. The post holder is responsible for 17 female patients on the ward in an acute setting, providing senior medical input for their mental health while working closely with the multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

To manage, appraise, and give clinical supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director, in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.

To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.

To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.

To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit it promptly to the Information Department.

To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.

To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.

To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.

To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.

To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.

To work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the Medical Director and other managers in preparing plans for services.

To provide high‑quality evidence‑based senior medical care to patients in the acute care and locked rehabilitation settings.

To work closely with multidisciplinary teams to help deliver person‑centred care to patients.

To foster close collaborative therapeutic relationships with patients and carers to deliver person‑centred care.


Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* In good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* CCT in General Adult Psychiatry and included on the specialist register.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
