Health Care Assistant – Ormskirk Paediatric Outpatients

We are looking for a proactive, innovative, and motivated Children's Health Care Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Children’s Paediatric Out Patient Department. The successful candidate will support the Children’s Nursing and Medical Teams and other disciplines to provide a seamless, high‑quality service for children, young people and their families within the clinic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
* Work as part of a team, performing duties delegated by registered healthcare professionals.
* Act within your scope of training and competence, seeking help when needed.
* Follow Trust standards, policies, and protocols.
* Communicate compassionately with patients, families, carers and colleagues.
* Observe, assess and respond to patient needs, escalating concerns to nursing staff and initiating emergency procedures as required.
* Organise your own work and supervise junior staff or learners under nursing supervision.
* Undertake delegated procedures such as venepuncture, ECG, blood glucose monitoring, clinical observations, specimen collection, while escalating abnormalities to the registered nurse.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
* Care Certificate (equivalent to Level 1)
* Literacy and numeracy functional skills Level 2 or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
* Knowledge of personal care and related procedures
* Demonstrable experience in a patient care/health‑related role
* Knowledge of relevant legislation related to health care
* Experience of working in a team
Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
* Good interpersonal skills
* Experience of supporting junior staff and learners
* Able to accept direction and guidance

Salary
£25,760 to £27,476 a year, pro rata.
