About Fellowship

Due to continued growth and a healthy pipeline of exciting projects, we are seeking a full-time WordPress Web Developer to join our award-winning team. In line with our company values, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a forward-thinking and positive outlook, show great attention to detail, and be able to demonstrate high levels of technical ability. Furthermore, they should be able to confidently and professionally take tasks through from concept to completion ensuring that their solutions have been clearly defined, efficiently coded and suitably tested / quality assured.


We specialise in building WordPress Multisites, WooCommerce sites and integrating WordPress with other business systems (Salesforce, Sage, Hubspot etc.). We build long-term partnerships with our clients, who range from ambitious SMEs to multinationals and global groups.


As such, the successful candidate will be expected to help maintain, support and further develop our clients’ websites as part of our Digital Team, which includes developers, designers, account managers and digital marketers. There will also be opportunities to work on new WordPress websites and web applications / online systems, for both new and existing clients.


Our studio is based in Woolpit, Suffolk, just off the A14 – that’s 15 minutes from Bury St. Edmunds, 30 minutes from Ipswich and 40 minutes from Cambridge. This is a Hybrid role, with a typical working week split between the office and home.


Required language and technology proficiencies

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience of developing WordPress themes, plugins and websites inline with WordPress’ own coding standards preferably within an agency or similar, fast-paced, environment. As such they will be highly proficient in the following languages and technologies:

* PHP (procedural and object oriented at versions 7 and above)
* HTML 5
* CSS 3
* Javascript (ES6 and above)
* MySQL / MariaDB
* Git version control (including LFS)


Required WordPress proficiencies

As a WordPress specialist, we would also expect the successful candidate to have experience and feel confident working with the following WordPress plugins and extensions, which are a core part of our development process:

* WordPress Multisite
* WooCommerce (including HPOS)
* Advanced Custom Fields Pro (including custom Gutenberg Blocks)
* Gravity Forms
* WP CLI
* Full Site Editing
* I18n for WordPress


Beneficial experiences and proficiencies

As well as the above, experience of any of the following would also be very beneficial for this role:

* TailwindCSS
* Vue.js
* Composer
* Node.js and NPM
* Cloudflare configuration
* Working knowledge of Linux web servers
* Google Analytics 4
* Google Tag Manager
* Git Submodules
* Core Web Vitals
* OWASP Top Ten / secure development methodologies
* ‘On-page’ technical SEO concepts including schema / structured microdata
* W3C Accessibility standards
* Experience of the agile / scrum / sprints methodology
* Writing technical documentation and disseminating knowledge to other team members


Personal skills

As well as the technical skills and experiences listed above, we are looking for someone:

* With an ability to work on multiple projects at once, ensuring exacting deadlines are adhered to
* With a passion for all things digital including responsive web design, social networks, apps
* With an ability to accurately take a brief and deliver it to the highest standards
* Who is a motivated self-starter who can handle a project from beginning to end
* With excellent problem solving skills
* With enthusiasm and ambition
* With excellent organisational skills and a demonstrable capability to work to deadlines
* With excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for quality
* Who constantly reviews and checks their work as they go, avoiding unexpected delays and excessive snagging at the end of project sprints
