Overview

The Haematology and Transplant Day Unit is looking to recruit a highly motivated, energetic and efficient team player to join the Haematology Directorate. The post holder will have the ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise their own workload. The main purpose of the role is to support the efficient running of the Haematology Administrative team. The post holder will also assist the Medical and Nursing teams with clerical tasks, ensuring clinics are properly prepared and scheduling appointments. The post holder will be well organised, have a pleasant and approachable manner, be proactive, able to use their initiative and able to work well in a busy, fast paced environment. Good communication and IT skills are essential.


Job Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to ensure the efficient running of the Haematology & Transplant Day Unit by being responsible for the scheduling of all planned day cases and clinic appointments. In addition, the post holder is responsible for ensuring all administration tasks are completed to support the clinical team on the unit. The post holder will work closely with the Scheduling Team Leader, Clerical Officers, Medical Secretaries, and the clinical teams to ensure all systems are managed effectively according to Trust procedure.

Responsibilities

* Use the scheduling system to plan patients’ day case admissions, liaising closely with the clinical team about capacity to ensure efficient flow of patients within the department.
* General reception duties including greeting patients, booking patients into clinics and outgoing appointments.
* Adhere to all written instructions on the clinic proformas with regard to scheduling and booking of appointments.
* Add to waiting lists for day case investigations taking instruction from a booking form.
* Deal compassionately with distressing situations.
* Clinic preparation to ensure that all clinical notes and forms are present.
