Are you passionate about safeguarding those who are homeless and rough sleeping? If so, this is the post for you! We are seeking a Safeguarding Social Worker with a minimum of 2 years’ post qualifying experience to work with our Housing Solutions Service.
To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough we are currently offering a 10% market supplement to social work salaries, once ASYE is completed, this will be reviewed at the end of March 2026.
The post holder will be responsible for providing safeguarding advice and guidance to the Housing Solutions service whilst also undertaking section 42 enquiries where homelessness is a key presenting factor. This is a newly created post which will be part of our Access Safeguarding Team, which operates an assessment and safeguarding front door.
This post would be dedicated to the management of safeguarding enquiries working within our growing team which consists of a Team Manager, two Principal Practitioners, seven Social Workers, a Social Care Worker, five Safeguarding Outreach Workers and two Safeguarding Administrators. We are currently working with the implementation of the regional adult exploitation strategy and are looking for team members who embrace change and are committed to making a difference to people’s lives. Both the Access Safeguarding Team and the Housing Solutions Team operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, requiring strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a calm, confident approach to decision-making.
You will provide safeguarding advice and guidance to professionals and members of the public, with a focus on homelessness. You will need to demonstrate strong analytical skills and sound decision-making, supported by in-depth knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Making Safeguarding Personal, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Homeless Reduction Act 2017. Applicants must be qualified Social Workers, registered with Social Work England and have the ability to travel to various locations across the Council sites.
