General Practitioner - Urgent Care (Scarborough)

Nimbuscare is looking for experienced and enthusiastic clinicians to join our growing urgent care team. We are a clinically-led organisation committed to innovation, collaboration, and delivering care that puts people first.


Main duties of the job

As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work across our services, including:

* Clinical Assessment Service (CAS), based in Holgate, York
* Weekend Home Visiting Service based in York
* Face-to-face sessions at York, Selby, Malton, Scarborough and Whitby Hospitals
* Urgent Treatment Centres at York and Scarborough Hospitals
* Same Day Urgent Care clinics in York, Scarborough and Whitby

We're looking for skilled, compassionate professionals who can work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You'll be confident managing a broad range of urgent care presentations, delivering safe, effective clinical decisions, and maintaining high standards of care.

Job description


Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical responsibilities:

IUC Hub/Clinical Assessment Service:

Monitor incoming calls and respond promptly based on clinical need.

Provide telephone assessment for patients via NHS 111, closing cases where appropriate.

Offer clinical advice to health care professionals and coordinate patient care.

Arrange face-to-face reviews at UTC/SDUC clinics.

Organize home visits when needed.

Provide clinical advice to internal and external staff, including triage nurses, GPs, district nurses, ACPs, and paramedics.

Where trained, provide clinical supervision for GP SpRs/Trainee ACPs during shifts.

Develop knowledge of referral pathways to maximise community service use (e.g., Pharmacy First, community eye services).

Urgent Treatment Centres:

Work within current scope and develop skills across urgent care presentations, including minor injuries and illnesses.

Attend training to assess and manage minor injuries.

Lead minor illness presentations during shifts.

Collaborate with the Lead Urgent Care Practitioner for patient prioritization.

Supervise and train GP SpRs and trainee practitioners.

Ensure accurate clinical coding before shift end.

Same Day Urgent Care (SDUC) clinics:

Assess, diagnose, and manage minor illnesses autonomously.

Provide supervision for trainees where trained.

Operate diagnostic equipment and ensure safety.

Report faulty equipment.

Complete event reports as needed.

Across all services,:

* Assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge or refer patients appropriately.
* Make autonomous, evidence-based clinical decisions.
* Provide health promotion and preventative advice.
* Prescribe medications electronically following NICE and BNF guidelines.
* Adhere to medicines management policies.
* Document consultations accurately and timely.
* Educate patients on service use.
* Collaborate with other professionals to meet patient needs.
* Communicate proactively with the on-call manager.
* Maximize service efficiency and effectiveness.
* Promote professional standards set by GMC, RCGP, and NHS guidelines.
* Monitor and contribute to service KPIs.
* Report safety and experience events or feedback.
* Participate in complaint management and service development.
* Follow relevant policies and pathways.
* Represent the service professionally.
* Report concerns about staff behavior or safety.
* Inform Nimbuscare of any restrictions affecting work.
* Be prepared to move to alternative sites if needed.
* Comply with policies on confidentiality, data protection, and safety.
* Contribute to quality standards and lifelong learning.
* Attend governance and training meetings.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Fully Qualified Doctor with current GMC registration.
* MRCGP qualification.
* On National Performance List for GPs.
* Evidence of medical indemnity insurance.


Desirable

* Evidence of CPD.


Physical Skills

* Own transport and driving license.


Skills and Knowledge

* IT skills (MS Office, SystmOne).
* Advanced assessment skills, including history and examination.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
* Ability to work independently and in a team.


Experience

* Experience in triage/telephone assessment.
* Experience in urgent care settings (UTC/GP OOHs/ED).
* Experience in assessing and managing minor injuries and illnesses.
