An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology. This 4 hours per week vacancy is paid pro‑rata for variations in hours.
The Training Programme Director works with and supports the Head of School in leading delivery of wide-ranging functions aligned to the NHS England mandate, focusing on learner supervision, assessment, experience, faculty engagement, effective educational outcomes and whole‑workforce transformation.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the Ophthalmology Training Programme
* Specialty‑specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns
* Recruitment to training posts and programmes
* Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management, career support, less‑than‑full‑time training, inter‑deanery transfer, academic training and other related work‑streams
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Ophthalmology training across the region, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑professional team.

Application Process
Successful candidates will undergo an Inter‑Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). They may opt out at any stage. Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40 % of their time working in‑person. The position is offered on a secondment basis; candidates must secure written release from clinical work from their Trust/Practice for the specified number of PAs/sessions.
