As a Band 7 Specialist Midwife for ANNB screening you will lead a small team including deputy screening coordinator midwife and Failsafe officer.
The post holder will oversee nationally managed antenatal and newborn screening programmes, including Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (SCT), Infectious Diseases in pregnancy (IDPS), Screening Programme (FASP), Newborn Blood Spot Screening (NBBS), Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and the National Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP). The role will ensure a streamlined screening process for women and birthing people, babies, midwives, medical staff, students, and maternity support workers.
This role will ensure the effective delivery of a person-centred antenatal screening service and a well-functioning local neonatal screening service, in line with National Screening Committee (NSC) policies and standards. The post holder will be responsible for meeting national antenatal and neonatal screening targets through ongoing audits and service improvements. They will also oversee the systematic measurement, comparison, and monitoring of all screening processes and develop standardised methods for feedback and audits to minimise errors, in line with Quality Assurance (QA) standards.
This post is based at the Princess Royal University Hospital & South Sites.
Main duties of the job
Take responsibility for delivering a high-quality, person-centred antenatal and newborn screening service for the Trust, in alignment with the national Screening Committee standards.
Serve as a specialist in antenatal and newborn screening, providing guidance and support to other healthcare professionals in managing the screening pathways.
·Take the lead in managing all Trust antenatal and newborn screening pathways, ensuring they comply with national standards and that any new or updated standards from the NSCT are promptly implemented.
·Work closely with the antenatal and newborn screening leads to establish systems that ensure Quality Assurance for all antenatal and newborn screening programs. This includes the collection of data, publication of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and preparation for external quality assurance visits by the National Screening Committee (NSC).
·Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to consistently monitor the screening pathways, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide support to staff throughout this process.
·Produce quarterly reports for the NSC and Health Protection Agency (HPA) including uptake of tests, referral and attendance at appointments, trends – new diagnoses, sensitivity and specificity of the screening service.
